Elementary School Lessons
Collaborative Cardboard
4th-5th grade lesson taught to a Waynflete (Portland, ME) after-school group. In collaboration with co-teacher Ailish McLean.
How do you make “trash” interesting? Resourcefulness is key in a profession where waste is expected, and material cost is high. This lesson taught students about artist Louise Nevelson, and had them building assemblages out of cardboard that could fit together as a big group piece. We learned about texture, shadow, and color.
Environmental “Trioramas”
It’s like a diorama- but with three sides!
In collaboration with co-teachers Ailish Mclean, Rachel Carswell, Mel Egan, Jen Benn, and Charlotte Caron.
K-2 students at Kaler Elementary (South Portland) were tasked to make mixed media dioramas around the theme “Land, Sea and Sky”. They practiced scissor skills, and playing with space and depth.
